Step-by-Step Assembly Guide
Follow these steps in order. The whole process takes about 15 minutes once the battery is charged.
Before You Start
Tools Required
- Clips or scissors (for cutting packaging bands)
- 5mm allen wrench / hex key (for the headset bolt)
- 6mm allen wrench / hex key (for the headset pinch bolts)
- 15mm wrench (for the front axle)
- Tire pump (both tires inflate to 30 PSI)
1
Remove the bike from the box
Cut the bands securing the bike in the packaging and lift the bike out carefully. Set the box aside. It is worth keeping for storage or transport.
2
Plug in the battery to charge
Before assembling anything else, connect the battery to the charger. STACYC batteries typically ship at around 20% charge. A solid red light on the charger confirms charging is active. Plan on 45 minutes to 1 hour for a first full charge. A completely discharged battery can take up to 110 minutes.
3
Remove all foam padding
Peel off all protective foam from around the frame, forks, and handlebars. It all comes off, so toss it once the bike is clear.
4
Remove the headset spacer
There is a cardboard spacer inside the headset (the assembly where the forks meet the frame). Remove it before attaching the handlebars.
Important: When you loosen the headset bolt, the forks can drop out the bottom. Rest the forks securely on a table first. If they drop, the internal bearings and spacers can fall out and be difficult to reassemble.
5
Attach and tighten the headset
Attach the headset to the fork and use your 5mm allen wrench to tighten the headset bolt. Tighten only until it starts to feel secure. Do not overtighten. Twist the handlebars side to side and confirm you cannot feel any bearing roughness or grinding. If you do, back the bolt off slightly.
6
Mount the front wheel
Check that the spoke pattern on the front wheel matches the rear. STACYC wheels are directional. Slot the axle into the fork, locate the small washer into its locating hole, then use your 15mm wrench to snug the axle bolts evenly on both sides.
7
Align the handlebars and tighten
Stand the bike up and visually align the handlebars so the front wheel tracks straight. Sight down the bike from behind to confirm. Use your 6mm allen wrench to tighten the two pinch bolts on the headset clamp. Double-check alignment before fully torquing down.
8
Inflate tires and run the pre-ride checklist
Inflate both the front and rear tires to 30 PSI. Then run through this checklist before your child's first ride:
- All bolts checked and snug
- Front and rear tires at 30 PSI
- Throttle moves freely and returns to zero
- Rear brake engages and slows the bike
- Battery fully charged (charger light turns green)
- Speed mode set to Mode 1 for the first ride
Pro Tip
Start on Speed Mode 1
Every STACYC has three parent-controlled speed modes. For a first ride, set it to Mode 1, the lowest setting. It limits top speed while your child builds balance and confidence. You set the mode before each ride and can move up whenever they are ready.

Assembly FAQ
Common questions from parents setting up a STACYC for the first time
You need a 5mm allen wrench, a 6mm allen wrench, a 15mm wrench, and a tire pump. Most of the assembly uses the two allen wrenches. The 15mm is only needed for the front axle bolts.
Plan on 45 minutes to 1 hour from the typical shipping charge level of around 20%. A completely discharged battery can take up to 110 minutes. Wait for the charger to indicate a full charge before the first ride.
Both the front and rear tires should be inflated to 30 PSI. Check pressure before each ride, especially after the bike has been stored for a few weeks.
STACYC wheels are directional. Before mounting the front wheel, check that the spoke pattern matches the orientation of the rear wheel. The video above shows this alignment clearly if you are unsure.
Start on Mode 1, the lowest setting. All STACYC models have three parent-set speed modes. Mode 1 limits the top speed and gives new riders time to build balance and confidence. You set the mode before each ride and can increase it as your child progresses.
