2026 KTM Oil Capacities
Engine and gear oil for every model, plus the Motorex oil KTM specs for each.
⚙ 2026 model year: 50 SX through 500 EXC-F
How Much Oil Does a 2026 KTM Take?
Here's every 2026 KTM off-road model's oil capacity in one place, engine oil for the four-strokes, transmission (gear) oil for the two-strokes, plus the Motorex oil KTM specs for each. Find your model in the chart, but always confirm the final level at the bike's oil-level check screw or sight glass when you fill. The chart figures are the manual's fill quantities, and the true amount can run a little under that once you fill to the check screw, so use the chart to buy the right oil and the bike to set the right level.
A quick note: this chart is a general reference for the 2026 model year, not a substitute for your owner's manual. Capacities and specified oils can differ by exact model, model year, and market, so always confirm against the maintenance section of your own KTM owner's manual before you fill. If anything does not match, the manual is the authority.

Engine Oil vs Transmission Oil on a KTM
Two-Strokes and Four-Strokes Use Oil Differently
In four-strokes (SX-F, XC-F, and EXC-F models), one supply of engine oil lubricates the whole engine, including the transmission and clutch. So there’s only one type of oil to buy and change regularly.
Two-strokes (50, 65, 85, 125, 250, 300) have two separate systems of lubrication. The top end is lubricated by two-stroke oil mixed into the fuel, called premix. The gearbox and clutch are lubricated with transmission oil. So if you’re asking “how much oil does my 85 take?”, there are two answers: the gear oil capacity and the premix ratio.
Only Use Two-Stroke Oil for Premix
Premix oil is made specifically to be mixed with gasoline and burned, labeled as two-stroke premix oil. Four-stroke engine oil, gear oil, or transmission oil cannot be used as premix. They aren’t designed to burn cleanly with fuel, and running them as premix will damage your engine. It works the other way too. You can’t use premix as gear oil.
Common Premix Ratios
Ratios are written as fuel to oil, so 50:1 means 50 parts gas to 1 part oil. Most two-stroke dirt bikes run somewhere between 32:1 and 60:1, and KTM typically specifies around 60:1 with its recommended oil. Your owner’s manual has the exact figure for your bike, and whatever ratio you choose, mix it the same way every time.
| Ratio | Oil per U.S. gallon | Oil per 5 liters |
|---|---|---|
| 40:1 | 3.2 oz | 125 ml |
| 50:1 | 2.6 oz | 100 ml |
| 60:1 | 2.1 oz | 83 ml |
One Exception: Oil-Injected Models
Some newer KTM off-road two-strokes, like the 250 XC-W and 300 XC-W and EXC models, have an onboard oil tank and inject oil automatically, so you don’t mix gas at all. You just keep the oil tank topped up. If your bike has a second filler cap near the gas cap, check your owner’s manual before you mix anything.
Which Oil Does Your KTM Take?
KTM specs Motorex across the lineup, and the chart lists what each model calls for. The four-stroke MX and off-road bikes (250/350/450/500) run Motorex Cross Power 4T 10W/50. The two-stroke gearboxes run a gear oil (the 65 and 85 call for a 15W/50-grade gear oil), and the engines run premix at the ratio listed for each model (commonly 1:60 on the 65, 125, 250, and 300, and 1:40 on the 85). Shop Motorex oils for the correct grade, or grab a Motorex oil change kit that bundles the right oil and seals for your model.
How Often to Change It
Intervals depend on how hard the bike gets ridden, so treat these as starting points and defer to your manual. Two-stroke gear oil is cheap insurance and gets changed often (many racers do it every few rides, and the 85 manual calls for gear-oil changes on a tight interval). Four-stroke engine oil and filter changes come on the schedule in your owner's manual, sooner if you race. When in doubt, change it early; oil is far cheaper than a gearbox or a top end.

2026 KTM Oil Capacity FAQ
Common questions from KTM owners
The KTM 65 SX gearbox holds 0.50 L (0.53 qt) of gear oil. The engine itself runs on premix (1:60), so there's no separate engine-oil fill.
The 2026 300 (XC / XC-W) holds 0.80 L (0.85 qt) of transmission oil per the manual. Fill to the check screw, real-world drain-and-fill often lands a bit under the manual's number.
Both run premix in the fuel plus a small transmission/gear oil fill. The 65 uses a 15W/50-grade gear oil at 0.50 L.
On a two-stroke, the engine is lubricated by premix (oil mixed into the fuel), while the gearbox oil lubricates only the transmission and clutch. They're separate systems with separate oils. Four-strokes use engine oil for the whole engine.
The 2026 250 SX-F (and 350 SX-F/XC-F/EXC-F) takes 1.0 L (1.1 qt) of Motorex Cross Power 4T 10W/50. The 450 and 500 four-strokes take 1.2 L (1.27 qt).
Not on a two-stroke, they're separate. On a four-stroke, one engine oil serves the whole engine including the gearbox. Always match the oil to what your specific model calls for.
