Fastway/Elka System 5 Steering Damper KTM ATV
System 5 Adjustments:
1. LOW-SPEED (low velocity damping level, red knob)
- 38 detented clicks
- Can be adjusted from no damping to full damping
- Adjusts the resistance level when turning the handlebars at low speed
- Reduces the effort required from the rider to hold its line when turning and cornering
2. HIGH-SPEED (high velocity damping level, dark grey knob)
- 9 detented clicks
- Can be adjusted from no damping to full damping
- Adjusts the resistance to high-speed impacts such as roots and rocks
- Prevents impacts from ripping the handlebars from the rider's hands
- Reduces vibration at high speeds and prevents rider fatigue
3. RETURN (return to center damping, screw in front of the unit's cover)
- 4.5 turns of adjustment, no clicks, adjustable with a flat screwdriver
- Can be adjusted from free returning to full damping resistance on return to center
- Helps the quad to hold its line at high speeds (free returning)
- Helps the quad to hold its line when cornering (full damping on return to center)
4. SWEEP (angle between straight and cornering, 2 screws, one on each side)
- 4-position adjustment, adjustable with a flat screwdriver
- Adjusts the angle where the handlebars gets into the "cornering" stage of damping
- Can be adjusted independently on each side (great for oval tracks)
- Allows the rider to fine-tune for his own cornering style
- Position 1 (dots at the bottom): no damping difference between cornering and straight
- Position 2 (dots at the front): narrow cornering angle, wide angle for going straight
- Position 3 (dots at the top): regular angles, for most riding types
- Position 4 (dots at the rear): wide cornering angle, narrow angle for going straight
5. CORNERING (damping level of outside range for cornering, 2 screws on top of the unit)
- 3 turns of adjustment, no clicks, adjustable with a flat screwdriver
- Adjusts the level of damping of the "cornering" stage
- Can be adjusted from no damping to full damping level (set with the high- and lowspeed
adjustments)
- Allows the rider to reduce the resistance when cornering on tracks with tight corners to
make it easier (requiring less effort from the rider)
- Allows the rider to have full damping on tracks with wide and rough corners (to better
hold its line)
- Damping level of the "cornering" stage will never exceed the damping of the "center"
stage (when going straight)
